David, thank you for sharing your knowledge of Padel’s practice in London and its remarkable growth in the sport industry.

A little bit of history

Padel is a sport very close to tennis in its origins. The court is separated by a net, but on top of that multiple walls can be used during the rally.

Padel was created in Acapulco, Mexico in 1969, when the entrepreneur Enrique Corcuera adapted a fronton Court by placing walls on the side and at the back to be protected from vegetation. He quickly realized that most players were letting the ball rebound on the walls, creating a new concept. He finally added a net to split the court into 2 equal parts, to finalize the beginning of a new sport.

Very quickly, his friend Prince Alfonso de Hohenlohe, a successful businessman in the sports car inductor, started to develop Padel in the south of Spain, Marbella where he built 2 courts in 1974.

The Padel market: A rapid Global Growth

Over the past few years, Padel evolved from a niche pastime into one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.

In 2024, there are around 5 million Padel users in Spain only.

It is the second most practiced collective sport, right after football and before tennis that counts around 2 million users.

Around the world, there are around 12 million users, mostly in Spain and Argentina.

But things are slowly changing, and we can observe a strong development within the last years in UK, USA, Italy, Belgium or France.

Only in UK, there are 400k players registered and 1000 Padel courts.

We could estimate 90 million Padel Players by 2035 worldwide
